All Fahmi Ilyas wants for his birthday is to win the Formula BMW Pacific 2009 season. "I know it’s my birthday but all I can think about is my first season in the Formula BMW Pacific and how I am going to win it," said Ilyas who turned 17 on March 17th 2009.
"For presents, I want some extra speed and more race luck to help me get the results I want" he continued. Although he is not with his family to celebrate the day, the London based Kuala Lumpur born hopes his birthday present will come during race days.
Currently studying in the Regent Business School in London, Ilyas was at the Sepang International Circuit last week for a three-day test session with his new outfit Team E-Rain Racing.
"We had a great test last week and I got to know more about the car. I managed to clock consistent times under different car conditions which I am very happy with. There are still a few things the team and I are working on but I am confident I will be fully ready when the season starts," said Ilyas.
Ilyas will be making his debut with Formula BMW Pacific, as the support race during the Formula 1 Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix, on April 3-5 at Sepang International Circuit.
"The date is getting closer and I am getting more and more excited. To make my debut in front of my home crowd is something I have dreamt about. I love my country and decided to paint my car with the colours of the Malaysian flag. I will do my best and promise I will not disappoint the Malaysian fans who will be watching me race," he concluded.
Team principal HongSik Jeon is very confident of Fahmi making an impressive start of his shift to formula cars from karts.
“Fahmi is a very intelligent driver and learns fast. He knows what the problems with the car are and what he needs to do to get the perfect setting. Of course, he is just learning but he learns fast and that is his strength. His three day test least week saw him push the car faster that he has before and I am confident he will be ready to achieve his targets for this season,” added HongSik. |
