After claiming pole position in wet conditions in qualifying, Hamad Al Fardan used a heavy rain shower before the third round of the Formula Renault Asia V6 series to exert his wet weather dominance over his rivals.
Taking a textbook start, Al Fardan moved into an early lead ahead of the Team E-Rain pair of Karun Chandhok and Hanss Lin, while newcomer Matt Halliday was up to fourth by the end of the first lap having started from sixth place. Jeffrey Lee, was the first car out, spinning into retirement at the end of the first lap.
On lap two, Halliday of Team Meritus made an aggressive manoeuvre on Lin's car at turn three which resulted in Lin losing momentum and allowing both Seth Ingham and Ananda Mikola through to demote Lin to fifth
Positions changed again when second placed Chandhok got severely out of shape on lap three allowing Halliday, Ingham, Mikola and Lin to pass. Chandhok regained control of his car and continued the race in sixth, ahead of Denis Lian, Ken Lee and Michael Ho. |
