FV6A : Chandhok moves back into contention
2006-09-18 818

Karun Chandhok has moved into second place in the Formula Renault Asia V6 series after claiming a pair of podium positions at Sepang in Malaysia.

During the wet qualifying session, the E-Rain Racing driver set the fastest time in the first part of the knock out session, but was eclipsed in the final few seconds of the second part, lining up second on the grid alongside Bahraini driver and new championship leader Hammad Al Farden.

Beginning under gloomy skies following a typical Malaysian thunder shower, all drivers opted for grooved wet weather tyres and at the start, with Chandhok and Al Fardan were wheel to wheel going into turn one.

The Bahraini just managed to squeeze ahead of the Indian and the pair of them started pulling away from the rest of the pack. On lap four, under braking for the hairpin, Karun locked up his rear wheels and went wide into the gravel losing five places in the process.
